Senior Pastor Position Responsibilities

Brief Description of Senior Pastor Responsiblities:

Responsibility: Pastor is responsible for:

1.      Overseeing the spiritual health of the congregation and church ministries,

2.      Equipping and discipling the congregation in the use of their gifts in ministry,

3.      Partnering with Leadership Board in tending the vision and mission of the congregation.

Specific Tasks:

4.      Worship

a.      Primary preaching role (about 32-35 times per year)

b.      Partner with Worship Commission and Associate Pastor to plan worship

c.       Encourage the development of the prayer life of the congregation

d.      Partner with the leadership team in leading ceremonies and celebrations

5.      Pastoral Care

a.      Be a resource to the Pastoral Care Team, and PC Team Coordinator

b.      Crisis care and visitation

c.       Pastoral and premarital counseling as requested

6.      Mission & Service

a.      Encourage and equip members to share their faith

b.      Be a pastoral resource to Mission Commission

c.       Identify community needs and opportunities for missional initiatives

d.      Oversee guest and new attendee follow-up

7.      Christian Education

a.      Partner with Associate Pastor and Christian Education Commission to coordinate curriculum for faith formation

b.      In conjunction with Associate Pastor, coordinate Faith and Membership Exploration classes

8.      Administrative

a.      Coordinate the work of the Associate Pastor and other staff

b.      Assist in setting the agenda and follow-up of congregational and commission meetings

c.       Attend Mosaic Conference, MC-USA church-wide, and community meetings

d.      Attend Leadership Board and Elders meetings
